Ep 25 – Selwyn Cook from the Disability Business Network
Selwyn Cook is a long‑time business owner, disability employment champion and co‑founder of the Disability Business Network. After running a network of 18 service stations across the Waikato and employing more than 200 staff, Selwyn became known for his leadership in inclusive employment, winning the Attitude Employer Award in 2014 and advocating for disabled jobseekers through Workbridge and other national initiatives.
In this episode, host Julie Woods talks with Selwyn about the moment that changed his approach to hiring, the business benefits of inclusive employment and the strengths disabled people bring to both employment and self‑employment. He reflects on his work with the Disability Business Network, the My Business Starter programme and the importance of leadership‑driven change in creating equitable opportunities for disabled people in Aotearoa.
