Matt, a man wearing a sun hat and sunglasses, using a wheelchair in Egypt. The pyramids are in the background behind him.

There’s still time to bridge the gap! You can open up a world of possibilities for someone like Matt.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to ‘bridge the gap’ in services for disabled Kiwis, there’s still time to give.

If you can, will you donate now to help change the lives of people like Matt?

A terrible accident, more than 20 years ago, left Matt a quadriplegic – and in a heartbreaking situation.

You see, Matt is unable to go anywhere without the help of friends and family. His freedom and independence were gone, and he ended up feeling like a burden on his loved ones.

It was the kindness of people like you, through CCS Disability Acton, that gave Matt a new lease on life.

Because of our kind supporters, we were able to arrange transport for Matt, 3 times a week, to wherever he needed (and wanted) to go... opening up a whole world of possibilities.

You see, Matt’s a very talented photographer, and he uses drone technology to take some amazing shots.

Not long ago, the Pātaka Art + Museum offered to give Matt a solo exhibit to showcase his photography. Matt really wanted to showcase his work, but he worried that his collection of photos wasn’t up to scratch.

Because of the transport people like you made possible, Matt realised he could now travel all over the region to get the perfect shots for the exhibit.

And after working hard for weeks – we are thrilled to let you know that Matt’s exhibit has been a complete success.

Matt is delighted, and is planning to pursue more business opportunities in the future.

He told us: "I think it’s important for people to understand that all [disabled people] have a huge range of abilities – and some people might not have discovered theirs yet."
I couldn’t agree more.

Every disabled person has value, enormous potential, and so much to offer our society – but there are many barriers that stand in their way.

And it’s why your support is so important.

From all of us at the CCS Disability Action, thank you so much for helping bridge the gap for people like Matt, and for caring so deeply about others.

Brent’s story

Meet Brent, a legally blind cartoonist and teacher who connects with people through his art.

With limited public transport in Oamaru, our team assists Brent in getting to his work and doing everyday tasks.

Chrissy & Mandy's story

Chrissy and Mandy have lived in Manawatū for much of their lives, sometimes with family and, for Mandy, sometimes in residential care. Now, with the support of our team, they live together in Feilding.

Mandy previously lived in residential care, an environment that can impact day-to-day choices and freedoms for some people. To enable her to live independently, CCS Disability Action organised a team of support workers who live with the pair 24/7. Read their story.
