Help Marvin and other disabled Kiwis turn business dreams into reality

Your gift today supports disabled people to start their own businesses

When doors to employment are closed, starting a small business can be the key to independence, confidence, and connection.

With your support, through CCS Disability Action's My Business Starter programme, disabled Kiwis like Marvin can build businesses they are proud of – and lives they choose.

Meet Marvin and Mason

If you met 20‑year‑old Marvin at a local farmers' market, your heart would fill with pride.

You'd see him at his Ruffage Dog Treat Co. stall, beaming as he talks to customers and shares samples of his homemade dog treats. You'd probably spot Mason too – his much‑loved assistance dog, who inspired the whole idea.

Marvin lives with a rare condition called Harel Yoon syndrome. He has low vision, uses a powerchair, and needs support with many everyday tasks. For a long time, other people's low expectations made it hard for him to see what was possible.

Through CCS Disability Action's My Business Starter programme, Marvin was supported to turn his idea into a real business. With tailored planning, coaching and practical support, he created Ruffage Dog Treat Co. – a business that fits his life, his energy levels, and his goals.

Today, Marvin isn't just "being looked after". He's a business owner, a familiar face at the market, and a valued part of his community.

It is so life changing to lift someone like Marvin to a better place. To give them the opportunity to access the community. To start a business. To become independent.
— Steph, Marvin's mum

What your gift makes possible

Every dollar you give helps fill the gap between what's funded and what people actually need to thrive.

  • $40 funds a return journey so a disabled person can get to mentoring, or tailored advice

  • $50 provides one hour of direct support in the community

  • $100 funds information and advocacy for a disabled entrepreneur

Every gift helps. Donate by 31 December.

Give hope this Christmas – before 31 December

Government contracts only cover part of the support people need. Your donation fills the gap between what's funded and what's actually needed for people to succeed.

By 31 December, your gift will help disabled people take their first steps into business in 2026.
