Colene Herbert
Tēnā Koutou, I’m Colene Herbert, and I hail originally from a small place on the East Coast – Ruatōrea. I’m proud to now serve as the General Manager for the Midland Region of CCS Disability Action, based in Tairāwhiti.
I chose to work for CCS Disability Action for many reasons, one of the most personal being my experience growing up with a brother who was disabled. From a young age, I learned the art of advocacy – and that early experience shaped a career spanning over 40 years in the disability sector. I’m still learning, and CCS Disability Action continues to be a place where that learning is encouraged and nurtured.
After many years of supporting and advocating for disabled people and their whānau, I bring a breadth of knowledge and insight to this work. But more importantly, I bring an authentic voice – one grounded in lived whānau experience, cultural connection, and a deep respect for the strength of the disability community.
Outside of work, I’m kept grounded by my miniature poodle Mila, who ensures I don’t spend too much time on the job! She’s a small dog with a big job – balance and perspective.
