Pub Charity grant creates a safe, welcoming outdoor space at our Nelson office

CCS Disability Action is delighted to acknowledge a grant of around $6,000 from Pub Charity Limited, which has funded a new deck at our Nelson branch on Trafalgar Street.

Our Nelson team supports disabled people and whānau across wider Nelson, and the branch itself is an accessible community hub. It's a base for a local CCS Disability Action-supported Voice and Action group, and a place where visitors, whānau, and community partners come and go throughout the year. A building that feels safe and welcoming isn't a nice-to-have in that context. It's part of the mahi.

The grant replaced old decking that had begun to rot and was becoming unsafe. In its place is a solid outdoor area that people can actually use – the space where the team hosts its celebration on International Day of Persons with Disabilities and a community Christmas party, and where kaimahi gather to connect, take a break, and share lunch together. It will serve disabled people, whānau, and visitors to the branch for years to come.

"This decking has made a real difference to how the branch feels for everyone who comes through the door," says Peter Seelen, Service Manager, CCS Disability Action. "We're very grateful to Pub Charity for their support. It's given us a welcoming outdoor space for the people we support, our visitors, and our team."

Pub Charity Limited returns funding raised through its venue operators to local communities wherever possible, including health, disability, and welfare organisations. That local focus aligns closely with our mission to see every disabled person woven into the lives of their whānau and community.

Small grants like this one have an impact well beyond the building. A safe, comfortable environment means our Nelson kaimahi can keep doing what they do best: supporting disabled people and whānau to have more choice and control in their lives.
