Job description Community Support Worker

Hours: Part-time (work includes sleepover and weekend hours)

Location: Whangārei

We are looking for Community Support Workers to work with disabled children and young people we support in Whangarei, both in the community and at our Children’s Respite House Te Whare Taonga. The support that you will be required to provide will vary. Some of the work will be physical.

Job specific information

The goal is to ensure that disabled people can live in their own homes and participate in their own community by accessing opportunities of their choosing as detailed in their Personal Plan. The support provided will promote confidence, skill building, independence, quality of life and inclusion within the family/whānau and the wider community.

If working in the Respite House, the goal is to ensure that disabled people and their family/whānau are supported while staying in our care and to provide families a break in times of need.

As a Community Support Worker, you will ensure:

  • That disabled people have the ability to reach their identified goals in an enabling, culturally respectful and unobtrusive manner.

  • That the support work is driven by the person we support individual Personal Plan.

  • That the service delivery is creative, flexible, and responsive to the needs of the disabled person and in line with CCS Disability Actions values and mandates.

With the support of our organisation, you’ll:

  • Ensure disabled people are supported in making their own decisions and can participate to the best of their ability within their own communities.

  • Provide empowering, competent, and respectful support consistent with the cultural values of the individual and their whānau.

  • Provide support which encourages and facilitates the individual’s inclusion in their family/whānau and wider community.

  • Ensure communities are aware and are more inclusive of disabled people and their families/whānau.

  • Support disabled people staying at our Respite House.

About you

We are looking for people who have:

  • A passion for enabling others to lead good lives.

  • Flexibility in the hours you can work.

  • Have a clean full driver’s license.

  • A minimum of 1 years’ experience working alongside Children and Youth would be an advantage for our respite service.

  • Experience providing one to one support in the community is preferred but not essential.

  • Have a Health Care Assistant Qualification or a Level 2 or 3 equivalent or experience working in the Disability sector, or a willingness to undertake training.
