Turning conversation into change in Tairāwhiti

Disabled people, whānau, and community members are invited to come together for Tairāwhiti’s first Voice and Action gathering this April – a relaxed, welcoming space to share experiences, connect, and help shape positive change in the region.

Voice and Action Groups are part of CCS Disability Action’s commitment to ensuring disabled people have real influence in decisions that affect their lives. These local gatherings are about turning lived experience into community action, while building strong and supportive connections along the way.

The Tairāwhiti event will take place at 11am, Thursday 16 April at the Lawson Field Theatre’s Rose Room, Gisborne. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re keen to share your ideas, listen to others, or simply learn more about what’s happening locally.

“We want people to feel completely at ease – this isn’t a formal meeting,” says Tairāwhiti Service Manager Erica Rutherford. “It’s about friendly connection, honest kōrero, and finding common ground. Everyone’s voice matters, and this is a safe, inclusive place to be heard.”

Attendees are also encouraged to let the CCS Disability Action team know about any access needs to help make the space as comfortable as possible. Tea, coffee, and morning tea will be provided.
