Hours: Part-time position with minimum of 20 hours per week

About this role

This role offers you an exciting opportunity to use and develop your support skills within Greymouth and surrounding areas. Our work is undertaken alongside disabled people, their family/whānau, and supports the individual’s needs in a person directed, creative way allowing disabled people to live fully engaged lives in their homes and in the community.

Job specific information

Our Support Worker will work with the team to explore opportunities to offer the people they support, so they can be as active as possible in their community and be involved in their chosen activities, such as employment, leisure, or spiritual activities. The Support Worker will work with the people they support to encourage them to live independent lives where they are able to complete daily tasks and responsibilities independently.

As a Community Support Worker, you will:

  • Ensure support is provided in ways, at the times and places agreed in the individual’s Personal Plan with CCS Disability Action.

  • Provide services in accordance with CCS Disability Action policies and procedures and work practices and the Disability Leadership Framework.

  • That the service delivery is creative, flexible, and responsive to the needs of the disabled person and in line with CCS Disability Actions values and mandates.

  • Take part in supervision, performance review and training opportunities.

With the support of our West Coast Manager and the Greymouth Team of our organisation, you’ll:

  • Ensure disabled people have the ability to reach their identified goals in an enabling, culturally respectful and unobtrusive manner.

  • The disabled people are supported in making their own decisions and can participate to the best of their ability within their own communities.

  • Provide empowering, competent, and respectful support consistent with the cultural values of the individual, and his or her whanau. 

  • Provide support which encourages and facilitates the individual’s inclusion in their family / whanau and wider community.

About you

We are looking for people who:

  • Have initiative, is reliable and flexible.

  • A positive attitude and a talent for developing supportive interactions.

  • The ability to relate well to a diverse range of people.

  • Experienced in working with disabled people would be a distinct advantage.

  • Strong connections to the community.

  • The ability to work independently, but also in a team environment.

  • A willingness to work with people we support to achieve their goals.
