Board Chair - Service Entity

Job description Board Chair - Service Entity

Job specific information

CCS Disability Action is seeking a Board Chair for our Service Entity – a national leadership role supporting the delivery of services to disabled people and whānau hauā across Aotearoa.

This is an opportunity to lead a Board that is focused on strategy, impact and the future direction of our organisation.

This is a pivotal time for CCS Disability Action as we embed our three-Board governance model and strengthen how governance supports strategy, performance, and impact.

We operate within a complex funding, service delivery, and advocacy environment. The ability to navigate competing priorities while maintaining a clear focus on purpose and impact is critical.

Your leadership will help shape the future of an organisation that supports thousands of disabled people across Aotearoa.

As Board Chair, you will:

  • Actively lead and facilitate an effective, high-performing Board

  • Guide strategic discussion and decision-making

  • Drive a culture of accountability, contribution and continuous improvement at Board level

  • Ensure clear visibility of decisions, actions and outcomes across the Board

  • Lead effective engagement with the Chief Executive, maintaining strong governance-management boundaries

  • Contribute to cross-board alignment and system-wide thinking across the CCS Disability Action Group

About you

You will bring:

  • Strong governance experience, ideally including Chairing (or readiness to step into a Chair role)

  • Confidence to lead robust, constructive Board discussions

  • Sound judgement, integrity and a values-based approach

  • A commitment to active participation, preparation, and contribution

  • The ability to hold yourself and others to clear expectations of governance performance

  • Willingness to engage in annual governance self-reflection and continuous improvement

  • Sufficient time capacity to effectively fulfil the responsibilities of the role (see Time commitment & expectations section below).

  • Financial and risk literacy at a governance level

Lived experience & commitment

We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of disability or who are closely connected to disabled people and whānau hauā.

A commitment to disabled leadership, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and equity is fundamental to this role.

Time commitment & expectations

This is a national governance leadership role requiring active engagement and preparation. Expected commitment includes:

  • Quarterly Board meetings (plus preparation)

  • Regular engagement with the Chief Executive

  • Ongoing connection with other Board Chairs across the CCS Disability Action Group

  • Participation in strategic sessions and cross-board discussions as required

  • Availability to respond to governance matters between meetings

Board members are expected to:

  • Come well prepared

  • Contribute actively to discussions

  • Take collective responsibility for decisions and outcomes

Honorarium provided in line with Board policy.
