Jacqui Eggleton

My name is Jacqui Eggleton. I live in Oamaru and moved here in 2018 from Alexandra in the sunny Central Otago.

I am a solo mum of four children ranging from seven to 21 years in age. Two of my children live with Autism and learning disabilities and the other two children have high medical needs, which makes for a busy and, at times, challenging household.

Volunteering has always been a part of my life. I have volunteered in varying roles over the years including with Girl Guides, Rotary, Plunket, Toy Library, Playcentre, Home and School Committee and CCS Disability Action Local Advisory Committee.

I have been associated with CCS Disability Action since 2015. During this time, the organisation supported my family, so I wanted to give back. I became a member of the CCS Disability Action Local Advisory Committee and became Chairperson since February 2020.

I believe that every person’s voice deserves to be heard. In my role, I see myself as steering the waka but it’s the people in the waka, our community members, who are the most important. Progress comes from working together as a team. Without the collective strength and direction of the team, the waka cannot sail the right course.
