Frankie Karetai Wood-Bodley

I’m a legal advocate and community builder, deeply committed to advancing equity, inclusion, and belonging across Aotearoa. With a background in law and policy, I bring both lived and professional experience to my work - particularly in support of disabled and LGBTQIA+ communities.

I hold a Master of Laws, specialising in human rights (disability and international humanitarian law) and public law, and I’m admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. Over the past 16 years, I’ve worked across legal, policy, operational, and leadership roles in both local and central government. I also bring 20 years of governance experience across local government, NGOs, and the not-for-profit sector.

Now working independently as a consultant and expert advisor, I partner with government, legal, and community organisations to help build systems that are inclusive, accessible, and just. My work is grounded in manaakitanga, kotahitanga, and the leadership of disabled people. I’m especially passionate about inclusive healthcare, community-led justice, and making sure systems work better for those most often left out.

Above all, I value whānau. I’m the proud parent of Hiwa-i-te-Rangi, two dogs Māui and Isla, and husband to Rāwā.
