Asserting My Rights
Self-advocacy workshops for disabled people
Asserting My Rights is a series of free workshops for disabled people in a number of locations across Aotearoa New Zealand, delivered by CCS Disability Action with local Voice and Action groups. The workshops help disabled people learn about their rights, build confidence in speaking up, and connect with others in their community.

What is the Asserting My Rights workshop?
Asserting My Rights is a friendly, relaxed workshop where disabled people come together to share experiences and learn from one another. Each session runs for around two and a half hours and is open to 20–25 people, so there's plenty of time to talk, ask questions and practise.
In the workshop, you will:
Learn more about your rights as a disabled person in New Zealand.
Practise ways to speak up for what you need, in everyday life and when dealing with services.
Build confidence in advocating for yourself and others.
Meet people in your area who can support you along the way.
Who can come?
The workshops are for disabled people of all ages and experiences. You're welcome whether you're new to self-advocacy or already speak up for yourself and want to build your skills. Whānau and support people are welcome to attend with you.
Accessibility
We want everyone to feel comfortable taking part. NZSL interpreters are available on request. Please let us know when you register. If you have other access needs, contact the local organiser and we'll do our best to support you.
