International disability work could be Labour Government’s defining legacy if action is taken

New Zealand is being recognised for its leadership in disability work with the World Council of Disability’s Franklin Delano Roosevelt International Disability Award. The award celebrates the lead role that New Zealand’s Government and disabled people played in inspiring and creating the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability. “

New Zealand has demonstrated global leadership and social innovation in the tradition of being the first nation to give women the vote, to settle issues of colonisation through treaty and negotiation, and to declare ourselves nuclear free".

Over five days, 37 Police men and women will run, cycle, and walk their way from Haast to Karamea on the west coast of the South Island. The trip covers 600 kilometres and has been dubbed “the longest beat”.

The Police initiative is not just an enthusiastic exercise regime; the “longest beat” is a fundraiser for CCS Disability Action – West Coast.

Victory for New Zealand at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2007

After only a few days into the Special Olympics, New Zealanders have been awarded five gold medals, six silver, and six bronze. The New Zealand team comprising 49 members is still competing, and more successes are expected during the final three days of the games.

Collaborative resource set to wake up Councils

Seven not-for-profit organisations have come together to educate and generate awareness about disability issues. A new publication called ‘Inclusive Communities’, has been produced by the Disabled Persons Assembly (DPA) and CCS Disability Action in partnership with five other organisations: People First New Zealand, IHC, Central Potential Inc, Workbridge and the Deaf Association of New Zealand.
